This Privacy Policy explains how the application Carbon Footprint ("the App", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application. The App is developed and published by the UETM DS team.

The App collects the following types of information:
When you sign in using Google Sign-In, we receive your Google account's public profile information, which includes your display name, email address, and profile photo URL. This information is used solely to identify your account within the App.
The App allows you to log carbon-emitting activities. The data you enter or that is automatically captured may include:
This data is stored in your personal Firebase Firestore database under your authenticated user account and is not accessible to other users.
The Smart Tracking feature uses your device's GPS to track travel distance and detect movement mode (walking or vehicle). Location data is used in real time to calculate carbon emissions and is stored as part of your activity logs. Location tracking only occurs while the feature is actively enabled by you.
On Android, background location access may be requested to continue tracking when the app is not in the foreground. This access is used exclusively for the Smart Tracking feature and is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.
The App accesses your device's motion sensors and step counter to detect walking activity and calculate step counts as part of Smart Tracking sessions.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond delivering the App's features.
Your activity data is stored in Google Firebase Firestore under your personal user account (identified by your Firebase UID). Access is restricted by Firebase Security Rules so that only you can read or write your own data.
We rely on Google Firebase's infrastructure for data security. Firebase applies industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for commercial purposes. Your data may be processed by the following service providers solely to operate the App:

Your activity data is retained in Firestore as long as your account exists. You may delete individual activity logs from within the App at any time. To request full deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at the email address below and we will process the request within 30 days.
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the App, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.

All permissions are requested only when relevant features are used and can be revoked at any time via your device settings.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
